It’s ALL detrimental and when it’s prescribed, that should be considered child abuse.
depends on the amount, but what will happen is that it a) have no effects or b) will give him ‘unknown’ side effects as he does not need this, he might be converted into depressed or severely hyper
Someone that takes ritalin that does not have a prescription for it themselves is putting themselves at honest risk. For one, ritalin can have potentially perilous interactions with other medications, so if you are taking other meds DEFINATELY DO NOT take unprescribed ritalin. Second, you may have an allergy to ritalin or something in ritalin that you don’t know about, that could be fatal. You could also have an unknown health check condition such as a heart arithmyia that could turn fatal by taking ritalin. If someone dies from taking unprescribed ritalin, the person who dealt it to them would be held solely responsible. If you are smart, you would not take ritalin unless your doctor prescribed it to you.
It is addictive and can cause psychotic episodes. I had a teacher that compared it to taking speed. According to drugs.com they don’t really know what it does in the body, other than it stimulates the brain. There is also a lot of controversy about whether it does any excellent for ADD kids either.
When I was younger I used to have ADHD. I was forced to take Ritalin and even though I was held to be on it, I had horrible side effects. The medicine completely ate half my liver. I didnt even know it until the doctor told me. I was immediatly taken off the meds.
Ritalin is a Schedule II drug. Schedule II drugs are potentially perilous and addictive, but since they have recognizable health check uses, they can be manufactured and prescribed under carefully controlled conditions. Schedule II also includes such drugs as morphine, cocaine, and Percodan, which should give you some thought of the potential danger inherent in this class of drugs. Furthermore, the physiological and psychological effects of large doses of Ritalin are quite akin to those of cocaine!
Nervousness and wakefulness are the most common adverse reactions but are usually controlled by reducing dosage and omitting the drug in the afternoon or evening. Other reactions contain hypersensitivity (including skin rash, urticaria, fever, arthralgia, exfoliative dermatitis, anorexia; nausea; dizzines; palpitations; headache; drowsiness; blood pressure and pulse changes, both up and down; tachycardia; angina; cardiac arrhythmia; abdominal pain; consequence loss all through prolonged therapy.
His best bet would be to stay off the ritalin and stab to the No Doze, but if he does take it, tell him to take it sparingly.
Hell yes!!! It’s a stimulant. Heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, for starters. Why do you reckon you have to have a prescription for it if it isn’t potentially perilous?
Here’s what I got off the web under Ritalin abuse:
A growing number of incidents of abuse have been associated with teens and young adults using MPH for its stimulant effects: appetite suppression, wakefulness, increased attentiveness, increased focus and euphoria. It is being used for appetite suppression in many teenagers; college students are taking advantage of its stimulant affects to help them stay all ears and awake for those long nights of studying. The drug has street names such as “Vitamin R,” “R-Ball” and the “Smart Drug.” It is inexpensive to buy from friends or dealers for somewhere from 50 cents and up to $5 per pill.
More common side effects of Ritalin contain:
Inability to fall or stay asleep
Nervousness
Loss of appetite
Headache
Increased blood pressure
Increased heart rate
Less common side effects may contain:
Abdominal pain
Abnormal heartbeat
Abnormal muscular movements
Chest pain
Dizziness
Seizures
Psychosis
Stroke
before i answer, ritalin works if you have add most of the time. it has negative side effects for some public but its an overall excellent medication for ADHD.
ritalin is really very stupid to abuse but its not as “perilous” as the stimulant cocaine, which is in the same drug family even though the effects are quite different. the pills are mostly additives and fillers than the real stimulant so that the pill will break down and work effectively. snorting it foliage all that nasty shit in your sinuses. and they just give you a weak buzz for all that distress. as a general rule, never snort pills, they all have fillers.
