My son (age 9) took Ritalin for two years and has been on Concerta for one year now. He has a few side effects such as dry backtalk, pinpoint pupils, and difficulty sleeping (not too often). I am very careful about watching him for long term effects but have yet to find any. My son would not be able to function in a regular school without something to control his lack of attention and impulsivity.

I know that the medication is very hard on the heart, veins, and nervous system. It is vital to me to keep my son away from caffiene and sugar (within wits of course) and really watch his diet – I make sure he eats his veggies!

when I was 7 I ongoing out on ritalin sr. then when I became an adult I changed to concerta. I have experienced side effects. But, this has improve my life greatly and I can tell you for me it was worth it.

A common initial side effect is sleep disturbance, which is characterized by a delay in the onset of sleep.

Ritalin/Methylphenidate can have additional side effects in some public. Some problems that public have had with Ritalin are: changes in appetite, stomachaches, headaches, sleep disturbance, potential exacerbation or tics, irritability, spring back hyperactivity, progression problems, and, very rarely, drug induced hallucinations.

Ritalin is the choice for nearly 70 percent of ADD and ADHD cases. It is often chosen because it has a solid record of safety and does not linger in the body for long periods of time. It also doesn’t take weeks to find out whether a patient is responding to treatment.

Some public be converted into temperamental or irritable as the medication wears off at the end of the day, and a few report headaches or stomachaches.

Even though some public may experience these side effects, there are no instances recorded of any honest or long term complications occurring in family who stay on Ritalin for years.

Ritalin is stimulant which increases brain activity, enabling those with ADD/ADHD to control impulsively, regulate behavior, screen out extraneous stimuli, and increase attention span. This may appear to cool the ADD/ADHD person while over stimulating those who do not have this disorder.
